Ahoy, Matey, are you angling to learn to fish like a pro? Orvis, long known as the total sporting adventure resource since 1856, is a name synonymous not only with outfitting the international adventurer, but also with making adventure dreams come true, at camps, with lessons, and education. It's the perfect time now (it's off-season for "civilian" vacationers, meaning it's a great time for the serious reelman) to attend camp or take private lessons with Orvis at the stunning Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo, where you do not have to be a member in order to enjoy the thrill of an Orvis-organized escapade. (Ocean Reef has a welcoming hotel as well as private homes in the rental pool, and as a guest, you can enjoy four-star treatment throughout the property.) There is bone fishing for snook and tarpon (Key Largo is a worldwide destination for the serious tarpon angler); reef fishing for snapper and grouper; and deep-sea expeditions for "big game," like sailfish and tuna. There are also private charters/lessons, guided fishing trips, group events, and even fly-fishing lessons, using Orvis' proprietary Progressive Method. Not interested in fishing? There is wing shooting for upland hunting, water-fowling, and sporting clays. And in the club's Fishing Village there's the major Orvis facility for supplies and gear.
